Hold sports owners accountable
By: Turner Sports Desk

Question: If you held your sports owners accountable for the product
they sale would you get a better product? The same way you go to the
grocery store and expect good products and good customer service. Of
course you would so why is it that fans accept watered down and half
arsed products from sports owners year after year?
I will use myself as an example because I happen to be the idiot I’m
writing about today. I have Caps, Wizards, Redskins and Nationals
season tickets. Shakespeare said "though this be madness, yet their be
method in it" so for those of you thinking that I am some kind of
business tycoon just throwing money around that is so not the case. I
am a small business owner and as such these tickets come in very handy
with my clients and my client’s clients when deciding whom to award
contracts and subcontracts to. Those of you with businesses of your own
you use every advantage you can so you know what I’m talking about. I
consider these tickets an investment so it certainly helps my bottom
line when my investments are holding up their part of the deal.
The only team in my dog house is my Washington Wizards. They are a team
that does just enough to make the playoffs but they are always sent on
early summer vacations once they get in. If the goal is to win a
championship they seem to be stuck on stupid. Stevie Wonder can see
that they do not play championship level defense yet they refuse to do
anything about it. If I had a flaw in my business that a client told me
about and I failed to correct it how big of an idiot would I be to
expect that client to continue doing business with me? For that very
reason the Wizards tickets will not be renewed. Until they improve the
product I am content to sit this one out.
I love sports and I am still just as much a fan as I have always been
but I am also wise enough to realize that sports is business. If
someone were trying to sale me a substandard product I would not buy it
and I do not care that it has been in my family for 50 years. Just
because you have done something for as long as you can remember does
not make it right.
The bottom line is sports franchise owners are like all other business
owners. If you hold owners accountable for the products they sale you
will get a better product. Stop thinking of sports as some separate
bastion where reality is suspended because it is not. As we have seen
with all of these cheating scandals of late sports is just as flawed as
anything else humans endeavor to do. Owners are billionaires and
players are millionaires and they stay rich because of fans like you
and me. We actually control sports with how we spend our money so think
about that the next time you are ready to plunk down a good portion of
your recreational income to see a team giving you a half arsed effort
or that you know is incapable of winning a champion in their respective
sport.
