My always controversial week #2 NFL Picks
By: Turner Sports Desk

Disclaimer: I am not a professional so feel free to try this at home
1) Patriots at Jets:
Patriots
Jets
My thoughts: If any team within the AFC East is going to
challenge the Patriots this is the team and this is the time. The Jets
have the Pats at home and for the first time in years they have a
favorable match up at the QB position. The Jets have to win this
football game in order to justify Brett Favre. Prior to Brady’s injury
Favre would have given the Jets a chance to win. Now that Brady is gone
the Jets should be favored to win. Matt Cassell is not Tom Brady.
2) Packers at Lions:
Packers
Lions
My thoughts: Yes I am an Aaron Rodgers fan, yes I have a cheese
head compliments of my next door neighbor and Wisconsin native but this
game has let down written all over it. Beyond the let down factor it
has Aaron Rodgers playing in a hostile environment against a team that
was embarrassed in Atlanta. The Lions are the Lions but they are much
better than what they showed against Atlanta. The Lions despite their
@ss kicking last week are talented on both sides of the ball and they
will make life tough on young Rodgers next week in a close game.
3) Raiders at Chiefs:
Raiders
Chiefs
My thoughts: This game will boil down to which young QB will get
the most help from his teammates. I felt bad for J. Russell with the
amount of passes his WRs dropped. The Chiefs Top WR, Dwayne Bowe
dropped some key passes that might have taken the game against the Pat
into overtime. I have to give an edge to the Chiefs because even in a
loss last week they showed a lot of guts. It is safe to say the Raiders
are plenty embarrassed after Denver pimped them out like @ss clowns at
home so I expect them to play a lot better. The problem is the Chiefs
defense is pretty good and they have a terrific home field advantage. I
have to give a slight edge to the Chiefs although I think the Raiders
are a much more talented football team.
4) Giants at Rams:
Giants
Rams
My thoughts: The bad news is the Giants are walking into a
potential hornet’s nest in this game but the good news is they’re
wearing bee suits. If the Redskins had any offensive cohesion and
production what so ever they would have beaten the Giants because the
Giants gamble too much in man to man coverage. The Rams are a team that
can hurt you in the passing game but they are hurting at WR. I have to
give the edge to the Giants because the Rams defense although talented
is still a major work in progress.
5) Colts at Vikings:
Colts
Vikings
My thoughts: Peyton Manning? Lose two weeks in a row? Can’t see
that happening! If In order for the Vikings to win AP will have to rush
for over 300 yards and a lot of TDs because Tavaris Jackson cannot
match Manning score for score.
6) Titans at Bengals:
Titans
Bengals
My thoughts: If I had a (working) brain I would pick the Titans
because of their dominant defensive performance against a very good
Jacksonville team last week. Unfortunately or fortunately for me I
smell an upset here. The Titans have major distractions this week while
the Bengals have to be embarrassed by their poor showing against a
rookie QB in Baltimore. I think Marvin Lewis, Carlson Palmer and a
Bengals Defense which actually played well last week rallies the troops
for a win against a distracted but better Titans team.
7) Saints at Redskins:
Saints
Redskins
My thoughts: The Redskins showed me absolutely nothing to
suggest they can go score for score with the Saints this Sunday. Make
no mistake the Saints are gonna score so the question is will Zorn’s
offense magically crank it up and become a consistent productive factor
in this game. The short answer is no. As a proud member of Redskins
Nation I would love to be wrong on this one but the Skins have not
shown me enough to even make a homer pick.
8) Bears at Panthers:
Bears
Panthers
My thoughts: This is gonna be one hard hitting, slobber knocking
football game. Raise your hand if you thought the Bears would stroll
into Indy and pimp slap the Colts. Yep, no one thought that would
happen and the Bears gained a ton of confidence in that game. Enter the
Panthers who strolled into San Diego and went blow for blow with what I
believe is the most physically dominant football team in the league and
won. The Panthers are on a mission to save John Fox and Jake Delhomme’s
jobs and they are also quite capable of being in the superbowl come
January (mark my words). In the end Jake Delhomme does more to win and
less to lose than Kyle Orton in a very, very, good football game.
9) Bills at Jaguars:
Bills
Jaguars
My thoughts: Another surprise pick here because Buffalo is
bringing it while Jacksonville’s struggles continue from the preseason.
Jacksonville’s problem remains their lack luster passing game. The
Bills feature a balanced offense and most importantly for this game a
run stuffing defense. Buffalo is much better than people think. They
are gonna challenge the Jets and Pats for the division if they can stay
healthy and hungry.
10) 49ers at Seahawks:
49ers
Seahawks
My thoughts: Holmgren and the Seahawks rebound after running
into a buzz saw that was the Buffalo Bills. The 49ers have issues and
Seattle can rush the passer which normally defangs Mike Martz offenses.
EDIT: The Seahawks are so injury depleted at WR that they are
hiring people off the street to play on Sunday. Given this issue I
still give the edge to Seattle because of their defense and the fact
that Mike Holmgren will have the troops fired up for this game.
11) Falcons at Buccaneers:
Falcons
Buccaneers
My thoughts: Can be summed up in this short note to the Falcons rookie QB.
Hey Rookie..Don’t take this @ss whippin personal.
Sincerely,
The Bucs Defense
12) Dolphins at Cardinals:
Dolphins
Cardinals
My thoughts: How many times have we had games like this where we
picked the Cardinals to live up to their talent level only to be
disappointed? The Cardinals should win this game but would anyone be
shocked if they lost?
13)
Ravens at Texans:
Ravens
Texans
My thoughts: I was impressed with Flacco but I cannot see him
going into Texas and winning this game. Matt Schaub and the Texans
defense had poor showings last week but I think they rebound this week.
Texans win a low scoring game.
14) Chargers at Broncos:
Chargers
Broncos
My thoughts: While I was thoroughly impressed with the absolute
pounding Denver put on the Raiders in Oakland I cannot see the Chargers
losing this very important division game. The Chargers defense presents
a whole different level of challenge for young Cutler and the Broncos
offense. I think the Chargers are angry and I think they are a better
football team overall than the Broncos right now. The Broncos served
notice that they are gonna challenge this season so the Chargers better
bring their lunch especially to Denver where they don’t play well.
15) Steelers at Browns:
Steelers
Browns
My thoughts: The Browns are talented but they are really going
to have to up their game if they want to dethrone the big boys. I
suspect the Browns will be a much better football team by season’s end
but they did not show me anything last week that convinces me they can
handle a very tough Pittsburgh team.
16) Eagles at Cowboys:
Eagles
Cowboys
My thoughts: Cowboys nation gets a rude awakening on Monday
night. McNabb is healthy, he has something to prove and this time he
has more weapons than just Westbrook. Lost in all of the hoopla
surrounding the Giants victory over the Patriots is the FACT that it
was the Philadelphia Eagles Defense that laid the blueprint for beating
the Pats. The Eagles defense looks very good and they are going hit
Dallas in the mouth on Monday night. Philly definitely threw Romo off
his game the last time these two teams played. I expect this to be
another low scoring fist fight of a game.
These are my picks for week #2. I would love to hear your thoughts, comments and theories below.
