Words of wisdom for a rookie
By: Turner Sports Desk

You have to wonder what some people are thinking. I understand that Crabtree believes he was the best WR available in this year's draft (I agree) but obviously Crazy Al and the Raiders did not think so. Now Crabtree wants to be paid like a top five selection.
I have a few words of wisdom for the young wideout:
- Take family out of the equation. Do not allow your family to say stupid things on your behalf and keep them away from negotiations.
- Learn about your new coach. Mike Singletary will quickly determine if you are tough enough and good enough to play so you need to get in camp and get as many reps as humanly possible.
- Shut up and play. The fact is you might have been great in college but as many many talented wideouts have learned this does not always translate to the pro-game.

There are some coaches you can play games with but Mike Singletary isn't one of them. There is nothing wrong with trying to maximize your earnings but must balance that with the fact that you are a rookie and you do not know anything on the pro-level.
