Redskins should give Tryon his "right now" moment
By: Turner Sports Desk
Remember when this rookie from Arizona State came to Washington talking trash? Like many clueless rookies Justin Tryon was quickly overwhelmed by the game and humbled. So much so that his mother contacted NFL Hall of Fame Cornerback Darrell Green and asked him to help. Darrell Green tutored Tryon over the summer and proclaimed the similarly sized and almost as speedy Tryon ready for a breakout season. Many wrote Tryon off after he
struggled but if Darrell Green works with a kid and gives someone his personal stamp
of approval I’ll take that recommendation every time. In fact I wish Devin
Thomas would spend a summer with Gary Clark and Malcolm Kelly would sit at the
feet of the master in Art Monk. I’d be
willing to bet they all would be better players and better men for it.
Anyway back to the topic at hand. Tryon has shown vast
improvement from where he started and he has the one asset you cannot teach in game
changing speed. The Redskins who are having all kinds of problems with Randle
El as the punt returner should give Tryon a shot. Darrell Green often spoke about “right now moments”
which he used to ascend to greatness and for Tryon this could be his moment. Players often speak of fear and confidence
being contagious. The cocky and trash talking Tryon appears to be the type of
guy that will take off if he experiences some success on the field. The
Redskins are 4-9 and they know what they have (or should I say don’t have) in
Randle El so why not turn the kid loose? They might find something they
definitely need that is already on the roster.
