Arenas gun gaffe headed to federal grand jury

Some of you might remember me screaming at the top of my
lungs not to re-sign
Gilbert Arenas. I like Gilbert’s quirky personality and his willingness to
go to inner city playgrounds to give kids hope. The following are things I do
not like about Arenas:
- He is a one dimensional player unwilling to grow his game
- He is not a leader
- He does not make anyone better
Other than that, he is a nice player good for giving you
your money’s worth on a given night. Those are the points I brought up as the
Wizards pondered Arenas last contract. Of
course the Wizards signed him and he immediately got hurt again. His return has
not made the Wizards much better on the court and now Arenas may face a federal
Grand Jury for an incident involving a weapon. Keep in mind that late Wizards Owner, Abe Pollin changed the team’s
name from the Bullets to the Wizards in order to distance the team from the
horrific violence taking place on DC streets. I knew Abe Pollin well enough to know he would
be so incredibly embarrassed by all of this.
The question now is what does the Wizards organization do
now? How can they sell this to an already disgruntled fan base? The only good
news I can offer is that Washington Capitals owner, Ted Leonsis has experience
cleaning up messes and starting over. The Wizards appear to be a franchise in desperate need of a start over.
