For Vikings it is all or nothing
By: Turner Sports Desk
The Minnesota Vikings are a franchise either on the brink of
greatness or at the precipice of their biggest fall in franchise history. This organization
went all-in on Brett Favre as the guy to get them over the hump and bring them
their first Lombardi trophy. Of course football is a team sport so Favre can’t
do it all but the Vikings were a team with everything but a championship
quality QB. The Viking Coach, Brad Childress was on the verge of being fired
after his experiment with Tavaris Jackson did not produce the results he hoped
so Childress pulled the Favre card. So far Childress looks like a genius but
here are a few potential problems:
- For all the great things Favre has done he has also shown a tendency
to throw that dumb pass in the most critical games. Granted Favre has looked
great all season but it is now crunch time. Anyone remember what happened the
last time Favre was in a crucial playoff game?
- What happens if the Vikings lose? Will Favre retire again
and set this franchise back another 2-3 years?
- What happens if the Vikings win it all? Will Favre retire
again and set this franchise back another 2-3 years?
Ladies and gentlemen these are the questions that must be
asked when you place all of your hopes on an aging gunslinger that can’t make
up his mind. My gut feeling is if the Vikings win the superbowl Favre is done
for good as there is no better time or stage to exit the game. The real fun or
horror depending on your perspective starts if the Vikings fail to win it all. Then
the Favre watch begins…again. I don’t know about you but I am so tired of both
the NFL network and ESPN becoming the 24/7 Favre networks. The Vikings gamble has paid off thus far so it will be interesting to see the end game.
