The Boys won their first playoff game since the 90’s last week
breaking that embarrassing streak of impotence but for Texas where football is life
that is not enough. Cowboys Nation to their credit measures success in Lombardi
trophies so what happens if they lose to the Vikings on Sunday? Prior to
writing this I completed a piece about the Vikings and how they pushed in all
their chips on Brett Favre to get them to the superbowl this year. They are
truly a franchise with everything on the line come Sunday. The Cowboys are in
the same boat in a lot of ways because both Romo and Phillips could be unemployed
if the Cowboys lay an egg. Romo is less
likely but if he really stinks it up then yes he could get a pink slip.
The Cowboys are playing some terrific football of late but
their last three opponents were not exactly of the highest caliber (Redskins
and the Eagles twice). Now they are facing a legitimate superbowl contender in
their house with everything to lose. Jerry Jones just invested an ungodly
amount of money in that new football palace. He was banking on the fact that
the Cowboys would be good enough to win tons of games and pay for that
beautiful new stadium. If they lose this game and Jerry starts cleaning house
that only sets them back further depending on who they bring in. Most of the big name coaches available want
total control which Jerry is not going to give up.
This football game is huge and not just for the
guys in purple. The Cowboys are playing for the future of their franchise as
well. Adversity does not build character it reveals it so I guess we will all learn all bout them Cowboys on Sunday.
