Tiger speaks, what should we expect?
By: Turner Sports Desk
As I listen to the media pundits talk about what Tiger
should and should not say I am reminded that this is still a private family
matter at its core. That is certainly not a pass for the harm and embarrassment Tiger caused his family, his endorsers and the fans that held him up as a role model. Despite the strong opinions on both sides of this issue Tiger broke no laws that require full disclosure so how much of this are we entitled to know? This also begs another important
question of how much do you really want to know?
The journalists that want Tiger to spend an hour or two spilling
his guts about each transgression are crazy. That will never happen and frankly
it should never happen. Tiger’s comments should be pretty simple. He should say
he is sorry to his family, his sponsors, fellow golfers and golf fans. As I write this and as you read this you
probably know people who are going through the same situation. The only
difference is Tiger is insanely rich but he lives in the fish bowl of public
scrutiny.
The news media (myself included) gets paid to provide
accurate and relevant information. The entertainment media gets paid to
entertain you by any means necessary. As you watch the news about Tiger’s statement
it is up to you to discern between who is providing news versus the organizations
determined to gin things up for the sake of ratings.
