You wanted proof that this is a different era of Redskins
football? Look no further than the two renegotiated contracts of defensive
tackle, Albert
Haynesworth and cornerback, DeAngelo Hall.
Essentially the Redskins converted their long term salary money into signing
bonus money which escalates the money paid this cap-less year but dramatically shortens
both deals. If you require a more technical explanation my friend and former
Redskins salary cap specialist, J.I. Halsell explains it all in his blog.
This is wonderful news for the new regime because it gives
the Redskins serious financial flexibility should they determine Haynesworth or
Hall are no longer a good fit for this team. This move along with not going
crazy in free agency shows we finally have professionals running the show.
