Sanity has returned to Redskin Park

If one required tangible evidence that the days of the free spending free agency days of the Redskins are gone look no further than your closest news outlet. Turns out the Redskins never even contacted Julius Pepper's agent despite all kinds of reports that they were first in line for his services. Bruce Allen targeted two veteran tackles, Chad Clifton, Tony Pashos and both chose to seek life elsewhere. Pashos even chose Cleveland of all places.

Thus far the Redskins have concentrated on resigning their own guys but they managed to bring in free agent Guard Artis Hicks. Times are changing and as a seasoned Redskin fan boring is great. How many times during the Dan Snyder era have we watched as the Redskins jump the free agent market only to lay an egg during the season. Redskin Coach, Mike Shanahan spent his year off analyzing team structures and operations.  Maybe he noticed that the two most successful teams this decade (Colts/Pats) spend more time and energy drafting the right guys for their system. Those teams also keep their players which means more consistency.

So for my fellow Redskins fans that want to sign every big name that flashes across the screen I have a phrase for you...been there failed that. Now is the time for an emphasis on building the foundation of a winning franchise. It is time for some non-famous players/coaches to step up and bring this franchise back into prominence.
