Redskins may not be done dealing

Scout.com’s Adam
Caplan reported and NBC’s Peter King confirmed that the Redskins offered Albert
Haynesworth to the Eagles during the Donovan McNabb trade talks. The name
of Redskin safety Laron
Landry also came up in the discussions. Translation, the Redskins may not
be done moving.
Haynesworth has complained about the idea of him playing
nose tackle in a 3-4 alignment and he declined to work out with the rest of the
team during the not so voluntary workouts. NFL.com’s, Jason LaCanfora reported
March 11, that the Redskins are very interested in Rams
DE/DT, Adam Carriker. Like Haynesworth, Carriker is incredibly
strong and can play both DE/DT. Unlike Haynesworth, Carriker has a very high
motor and he can play every down. Now that the Redskins
have dramatically shortened Haynesworth’s contract moving “Big Albert” is
not as financially painful as it once was. No doubt Haynesworth is an impact
player but if the Redskins can move him for a younger player with big time
potential and a high motor this is a good move for them.
Laron Landry being mentioned is a surprise although he had a
very disappointing season. Landry had both coverage and tackling issues but
many believe he was playing out of position as a free safety last year. Landry
has value but I think the Redskins are inclined to keep him unless a team
offers something they can’t refuse. Landry still has all of the talent to be
one of the best safeties in the league. Landry needs to play strong safety and
grow his game by getting in the film room. He regressed last year and hopefully
this sends a strong message to him to get his act together or he will be gone.
The Redskins can now move Jason Campbell to one of the five
teams interested in his services. Oakland, Jacksonville, Carolina, St. Louis,
Cleveland and Buffalo are all teams that have asked about Jason Campbell’s
availability. Former Redskin Cap specialist, J.I. Halsell reported that Jason Campbell has
not signed his restricted free agent tender the Redskins offered him. Look for
Campbell to sign his tender once the Redskins agree on the right compensation with
one of his suitors.
The Redskins have other assets that could net them much
needed draft picks like Andre Carter
who got 10 sacks last season as a defensive end but is not happy with the idea
of moving to outside linebacker. The Redskins also have two pass catching TEs
in Chris Cooley
and Fred Davis.
Cooley has more trade value and could net the Redskins more picks. Davis is
younger, cheaper faster, bigger and presents much more of a match up problem
than Cooley. The Redskins also have a
ton of running backs although judging by Shanahan’s track record they may need
all three due to injuries. The McNabb
trade really opened things up so expect the Skins to make some more moves
before, during and after the draft.
