Give superbowls back to the fans!

Why should the Superbowl be treated differently than any
other game? The argument that the elements should not decide the game is bogus
when every other game leading up to the Superbowl except in domed stadiums is played in the
elements. Wind, rain, extreme heat,
extreme cold, snow all play a part in the outcome of games so what is this relentless
quest to keep the game in warmer places really about? This is about corporate sponsors and warm
weather states that would like to monopolize the people’s game.
If corporate sponsors really want to push their products and
services they will support the game no matter where it is. If corporate
sponsors threaten to pull out then the NFL should get new sponsors and tell us
who threatened to pull out so we can actively avoid their products and services.
Do not let big business hold America’s game hostage. If Corporations want to
impress me how about giving all those corporate purchased tickets to the
families of America’s service members and civilians that are putting it all on
the line so we can enjoy events like this. If you want a positive return on an investment
give a kid that memory and you have a fan for life not to mention happy parents
that will never forget what your company did for their child.
Lost in all of this corporate sponsorship talk is the fact
that there is beauty in watching a football game at Lambeau field, Gillette
Stadium or INVESCO Field in December. There
is beauty in watching fans enjoy the game no matter what Mother Nature decides
to throw at them that day. In Washington I can go to a Redskins game in shorts
in September and I usually need an arctic parka by December and I love it. The
fact is most NFL cities experience a dramatic weather shift over the course
of the NFL season so it is absurd to make the claim that the biggest game should
always be played in perfect conditions. Really, tell that to the team that just
played in a blizzard or a fog bowl in order to make it there. If the elements are a part of all of the games
except for dome teams then the Superbowl should not be any different. Do the
right thing and play the game how it was meant to be played.
